Kieni MP Kanini Kega has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack Cabinet secretaries who are frustrating the implementation of the Big Four Agenda projects.

Mr Kega said a section of the Cabinet was not performing, thus making it difficult for the President to deliver the pledges made to Kenyans during the 2017 General Election.

Speaking in Nyeri town on Monday, the Kieni lawmaker said President Kenyatta had on many occasions complained about the performance of some ministers. He cited last weekend when the President warned CSs against politicking following a meeting at State House.

“Most Cabinet secretaries are not working to the expectations of Kenyans and are frustrating the President. They should resign instead of waiting to be fired,” said Mr Kega.

The legislator said that the National Assembly, where the ruling Jubilee Party controls the majority, will support the President should he find it necessary to reshuffle his Cabinet.
Mr Kega added that since the President has only three years to implement his legacy projects, he needs a dedicated team.

The President’s legacy projects, involve manufacturing, universal healthcare, affordable housing and food security.

“The President has only three years to fulfil the pledges he made to Kenyans. If he lacks a committed team to assist him, definitely he will have challenges in delivering,” said the law maker.

According to Mr Kega, half of the Cabinet secretaries are inept, while others do not understand their mandate. He said that those who have failed should step aside and give competent Kenyans a chance to serve the government.

Over the weekend, President Kenyatta said it will not be business as usual for underperforming CSs. Speaking in Kajiado County, the Head of State said that many young Kenyans were are willing to work.

The President complained that some ministers spent a lot of time politicking instead of working for the government.
