Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) are investigating an incident in which traffic police officers were filmed harassing a female passenger on Tuesday, February 5.
The viral clip which was widely shared on most social media sites, captured traffic officers along attempting to forcibly kick out the unidentified woman from the front seat.
"EACC is aware and investigating an incident of a video in the public domain involving police officers who are seen manhandling a passenger in a public service vehicle.
Police officers are classified as Public Officers and bound by LIA,2012 in conduct of their business," noted EACC. The officers had impounded the PSV for overlapping and wanted it driven to Kasarani Police Station.
However, it was not immediately established why police officers insisted on occupying the front seat thus sparking off a commotion along the busy road. In most cases, corrupt officers prefer co-driver' seat where they can easily receive bribe from the driver unnoticed.
One of the passengers Sophie Njeri then video-taped the whole episode from her window seat further irking the officers who arrested her for obstructing police in execution of duties. The Director of Public Prosecution at Makadara court on Friday, February 8, rejected the charges against her.
